About This Safari
Itinerary Overview
Experience one of the natural wonders of the world in-depth on this 6-day safari focused on the incredible Ngorongoro Crater. This ancient caldera shelters over 25,000 resident animals including significant populations of endangered black rhino and tuskers. With two days to explore the crater floor, you'll have ample opportunity to observe and photograph the dense wildlife concentrations, while staying in luxury lodges overlooking this 600m deep geological masterpiece.
Your Journey
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Touch down in Arusha and transfer to your hotel, where you meet your guide for a safari briefing over dinner.
Depart Arusha after breakfast and journey to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Have your cameras ready as you ascend the outer slopes and catch your first glimpses down into the crater's spectacular caldera. This afternoon enjoy a short walk on the crater's rim with a ranger.
An early start sees you descend the steep crater walls to spend the entire day on the crater floor. With abundant water and grasslands, this 20km wide bowl is home to around 25,000 animals including large herds of wildebeest, zebra, Cape buffalo and elephants, all undisturbed by the crater's steep walls. This is also one of the last strongholds of the endangered black rhino. Return to your lodge in the evening.
Enjoy a second full day to explore the crater's diverse habitats, from the acacia forests to the Lake Magadi area, known for its extensive flocks of flamingos. Your guide's knowledge will help locate the ever-present predators like lion and leopard that patrol this contained ecosystem.
Say farewell to Ngorongoro as you travel to the Central Serengeti and your tented camp perfectly situated for exploring this world-famous national park. An afternoon game drive provides your first wildlife encounters on the Serengeti plains.
Take in one last game drive in the Serengeti before transferring to Arusha for your flight back home.
